The P’s of Parenting: Pay Attention
PAY ATTENTION
If a shepherd does not know the condition of his flock or pay attention to his herd a few things could happen. For one, if he does not know their condition it is possible they could become sick, injured or be at risk for harm which could lead to death. And secondly, if he does not pay attention some could wander away and get lost which could also lead to death. As parents, it is very important as overseers of our children that we know their condition and pay close attention to them so they do not risk becoming sick, injured, harmed, or lost in their mind, body or soul. Not paying attention to your children could have devastating consequences not only for them but also for your family. We can know their condition by observing, talking and listening to them. How do they interact and speak to others? How do they talk about themselves? How do they appear? Orderly? Disheveled? Happy? Sad? Depressed? Anxious? Who are their friends? How are they doing in school? What do they enjoy doing? What are their hobbies? How do they spend their time? What do they watch? What do they read? What do they listen to? Everything a child sees, hears and experiences influences the well-being of their mind, body and soul. Paying attention provides opportunities to teach, offer alternatives, make suggestions and guide choices all which are key to protecting and keeping our children healthy and safe!
Bottomline: Paying attention to our children protects them and keeps them safe.
