The P’s of Parenting: Praise

PRAISE

I don’t know about you but I don’t feel good about myself or encouraged when someone is always highlighting what I am doing wrong and never highlights anything I do right.  Constant criticism and correction feels more discouraging rather than encouraging.  It makes me feel like I can never do anything right and I am always doing something wrong.  As parents, if we are not careful, we can highlight more of what our children do wrong and less or none of what they do right.  Which in turn, may result in them feeling like they are no good and discouraged.  But instead of always highlighting what they do wrong we can choose to praise them more for what they do right.  Perhaps if we praised as often as we corrected there would be more right behavior and less wrong.  Perhaps the praise would encourage them to do more good.  Children, just like parents need encouragement and how much more would a shout of praise benefit them rather than an shout of correction.

Bottomline:  Children do more right than wrong you just have to choose to see it.  Encourage and build your children up by praising them for their good deeds and right behaviors.  Focus more on praising your children!

“Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you are also doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11

“And let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds,” Hebrews 10:24
