Do Not Conform

The pandemic has really changed my exercise routine.  Pre-pandemic it was common for me to go to the gym 2 or 3 mornings or evenings a week and supplement the other workouts at home. But with the pandemic, that has reversed and all my workouts are done at home.  However, I will admit it is hard to get motivated and stay consistent at home.  With so much to do at home, I can find many other things to do besides exercise.  If the pandemic has taught me anything it is the value and importance of community.  Being around others who share your passions, interests and hobbies is inspiring, motivating and fulfilling!  We are created to thrive in community!

But since the pandemic, a new pattern of this world is to do everything from home.  Church, work, exercise and school are some of the major activities of life that have shifted into the home.  Sure, I agree it’s convenient but how beneficial is it for us as a whole?  How beneficial is it for you and your family to limit or restrict interactions with other people in your community?  And how beneficial is it for the community when your resources, support and loyalty is hundreds or thousands of miles away?  We are called by God to not conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.  Maybe it’s time to stop and really think about how beneficial this at home movement is for you, your children and your community.  Maybe it’s time to seek the Lord and discover His way and not just follow the way of the world.  Maybe 2022 should be the year we turn away from the at home movement and instead turn back to restoring and reviving our communities!

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
