Believe: Christmas Devotions

Day 18: Light and Free Love

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.  Matthew 11:28-30

We love the Christmas season but if we’re honest it can be overwhelming and exhausting.  The decorating, Christmas cards, shopping, baking, gift wrapping, parties and gatherings adds more work and stress to our already busy lives.  Depending on your circumstances, your level of Christmas stress may be high or low and you may call it good or bad.  But either way, stress is stress.  The holidays are a busy time and we can become so weighed down with holiday traditions that we don’t make time to simply rest and enjoy it.

The Christmas season is about celebrating the birth and life of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior.  God’s greatest gift to the world.  He came to us as a needy baby and then was raised from the dead to become our King forever.  Jesus is a treasure and is greater than any holiday tradition known to man.  We can best honor Jesus, not with our holiday traditions, but with our time spent with him in prayer and reading his holy word.  Jesus does not want us to be burdened and stressed over Christmas.  He wants to teach us the true meaning of life and give rest to our souls.  Jesus wants you to invite him into your heart so that every day will feel like Christmas morning.  There are seven days until Christmas.  Let Jesus free you from holiday stress and find rest in his light and easy love.

Matthew 1:18-24, Matthew 2:1-12
