Believe: Christmas Devotions

Day 14: Guest of Honor

You must also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.  Luke 12:40

Holiday gatherings require a lot of preparation and work to ensure your guests have an enjoyable experience.  Prior to the gathering, you spend countless hours preparing the guest list, planning the menu, deciding on a table setting and how to rearrange your home to accommodate everyone.  When the day comes, you are busy putting all your plans into action so that when the guests arrive it will be ready.  As the time draws near to the first guest arriving, you shift yourself into a higher gear and start hustling to get everything done.  No one wants to hear the knock on the door and not be ready.  Just the thought of it causes some of us anxiety.  It is so much better to plan your time well so that when the guests begin arriving you are happy and ready to enjoy their company.

Jesus plans to pay us all a visit someday.  Whether he is on your guest list or not is your decision but Jesus will knock on your door.  The last thing you want is to not be ready when he arrives.  You do not want to be in the last minutes of your life, anxious and panicked, preparing and deciding if you are ready or not to open the door and let him in.  We are all given the span of our entire lives to decide if we will accept Jesus.  We have countless hours to plan and prepare for his arrival so that when he knocks on our door we can open it with a smile and receive our promise of eternity in heaven with joy.  Maybe it’s time for you to begin to prepare for Jesus to sit around your table this Christmas.
